When thinking of a traditional barbecue, images of a blazing, outdoor fire pit somewhere down South probably come to mind. So it may come as a surprise, that the Greenwich Village Country Club—home to New York City’s only indoor mini golf course, bar and lounge—can throw a spectacular barbeque complete with enough grilling, smoking and braising to rival any Southern bash!

The First Annual BBQ Blowout, sponsored by iAdventure.com, was this past Saturday and featured eight of NYC’s best BBQ joints. The full BBQ spectrum was present from pulled pork sliders (middle right), BBQ brisket (middle left) and ribs, to pork and chipotle sausage served on a pretzel bun, —chocolate covered bacon even made an appearance! Singer-songwriter Caitlin Bell sang the afternoon away, with her jazzy and soulful renditions of popular songs by Maroon 5, The Black Eyed Peas, The Rolling Stones and more, setting a relaxed mood for some serious barbecue noshing.

In addition to all of the great food and beer, a BBQ sauce tasting station was available to tantalize our taste buds even more. Slick’s Big Time BBQ Sauce and Tom’s Bootleg BBQ Sauce (bottom) were among the options. And to drive home the American spirit even more, the Olympic games were streaming on a giant screen in the center of the mini golf course throughout the afternoon. With everyone in such high spirits and the smoky-sweet aromas wafting through the air, you really couldn’t have asked for a more down-home, southern comfort afternoon, making it the perfect escape from the hectic, hustle-bustle of New York City, without ever having to leave!
