When I was living in Italy I remember feeling left out because I wasn’t drinking “one of those red beverages with the ice and the orange slice.” Luckily, the nice bartender filled me in and let me know that beverage I was lusting after was an Aperol Spritz. Aperol is a bright red, Italian apertif that is low in alcohol (~11%) but big on flavor. Infused with ingredients such as rhubarb, cinchon and bitter orange, I always think of Aperol as a bitter and sweet explosion on my taste buds—perfect for getting my mouth watering before a meal.
Check out this time-lapsed video of the “Largest Aperol Spritz Toast.” Over 2,600 people raised their glasses of Aperol, Prosecco and soda to set a Guinness World Record. I wish I could have been there!
